Christians just as criminal

posted in Family-Friendly Morning Show, Music & Artists, Podcasts |

Got your attention, didn’t it?

Good! :)

How else would you describe the fact that Christians (specifically teens according to a Barna research study ) are just as likely as non-Christians to pirate music.

I had known this for some time, but what shocked me was hearing of people asking artists to autograph burned copies of their CDs. What a HORRIBLE position to be in - to have to sit there and sign a pirated copy of your own work and say nothing to offend the fan.

Who has created this problem in our society where such a significant number of us believe we are entitled to free music created by others - whatever the form is?

Do they not know that the vast majority of artists barely eek out a living? Do they not know that the support staffs at record companies and music stores are losing their jobs left and right?

So desperate is the situation, that record companies making a significant effort to place the burden of making up for the shortfall in revenue on the single biggest source of FREE advertising for their artists - radio stations.

Have you ever considered what your favorite radio station would sound like if it only played music that was offered royalty-free?

There are going to be sides taken in the issue of who is at fault for bigger problems the music business faces, but the main point remains - who do we as Christians think we are engaging in a clearly illegal activity and/or not making it a priority to teach our children to not engage in it?

I don’t know to much about the technology of alot of these things so I hope I am not
innocently doing something illegal. I understand the whole burning a CD being illegal.
I just recently purchased an MP3 player and subscribed to Rhapsody and download music
from them. Is this legal? I assumed since I pay a monthly fee they have the legal
rights to do this but I don’t know anything about these things………..its all new
    to me.

You’re fine, Cindy. As a Rhapsody subscriber, you are paying for the music you have downloaded.

Some people do pay up front for their music but still run afoul of the law when they “share” it with a friend by passing along a burned CD or mp3 file.
