Our LAST workout competition!

Car Push Challenge The last 8 weeks has been at times difficult, painful, exhilarating, exciting, and sometimes satisfying. A huge thanks to the trainers (Jessi & Jeremy M.) for leading the Natural Disasters and the Hurricanes into a challenging, life-changing experience.

Saturday, April 5, 2008 is our last team workout competition at Sequiota park (weather permitting!). It looks to be cold & frosty - and probably muddy. But, hey, if you’re gonna tough out 8 weeks of fitness training, why end it in a cushy gym with heaters? :)

It will be a hard-fought victory for the Blue team - yeah, I trash-talk again - and I couldn’t be happier for my teammates who have carried the bulk of the load the whole time.

And, of course, YOU’RE INVITED to cheer us on if you like! Just come at 8, dressed warm. And video cameras to catch Jenn’s humiliating moments are most welcome! ;)

Healthy Menu Options

If you’ve ever made the commitment to a healthy lifestyle, you know one of the challenges is in making "healthy" food interesting, tasty, appealing, whatever… especially to the kids.

What have you found works for you? Your family?

Here we share some recipes, ideas, websites we’ve found to help in our effort to take care of temples (according to 1 Cor. 6:19)

SBW - What was that smell?

Jenn was complaining about her odiferous workout today. Seems there was an odor in the gym.

Quatro

Week four… what a doozie.  We had a death in our family this week, which put me out of town for a good part of it.  People were so thoughtful to provide huge elaborate meals for us, but boy did it wreak havoc on my diet.  It got to be a running joke that I was just having one long free day.  There was one particular meal that I was really proud of myself, though.  I brought diet-friendly food for the trip so that I could stay on track, and I actually ate it at that meal.  Then I joined the rest of the group in eating cake.  It had strawberries in it, though.  It’s not cheating if there’s fruit!

When I came home, it was birthday party time.  Two celebrations over one weekend extended my free day even farther.

After all that, I exercised.  A lot.  I even met my goal, which was to run at least a mile and a half four times during the week.  All in all, I didn’t lose any weight this week, but I didn’t gain, either.  I’m good with that.

The first three weeks

OK, kids, it’s been three weeks since we started this new adventure called Springfield’s Biggest Winner. Since I haven’t blogged about the fun we’ve had so far, let me catch you up.

Week one: Ouch. I didn’t realize just how out of shape I was. On a positive note, I found the joy of learning what it would be like if I had Jell-O for arms and legs… not that much fun. My encouragement during the workouts was to know that it had to get easier. I hoped.

Help! We Need A Name

Jenn and I have to come up with suggestions for a name and motto for our Springfield’s Biggest Winner teams. Not hard when you have final say, but… we don’t. There are 9 other members of our teams that will be yea-naying our suggestions and tossing out their own.

So we thought what better way to be prepared for that than to ask our friends (i.e., you). What do you think would be a good name/motto?

Introducing Springfield’s Biggest Winner Competition

Biggest WinnerOk, here goes our foray into fitness! Jenn and I are looking for some teammates to join us in the Springfield’s Biggest Winner competition. Since neither one of us have ever done anything like this, it will be quite the learning experience. Going through it with friends will make it so much better!

If you’ve been considering a workout and nutrition program to get healthy in 2008, head over to the 88.3 The Wind contest info page to see if this might be something you can do. We can only pick one person each to join us so it’ll be whoever we decide can best help us reach our own goals and help our team win. ( Or maybe it’ll be too hard to choose from your stories and we’ll draw winners - we haven’t decided for sure yet. )

Not being chosen in the 88.3 The Wind contest doesn’t mean you can’t participate. There are other spots on the teams being filled by Next Level Fitness Academy. The deadline for the contest is January 29th. Deadline to apply for a spot through Next Level is February 5th.

For the not-so-faint of heart, we’ll be posting before/after photos and updating our progress here on the blog. Oh what fun!! :)

Check back often!
